The saying should be, “Right next to every strong man is a stronger woman.” That’s exactly what Coretta Scott King and Betty Shabazz exemplify. These two courageous women were just as committed and important to the fight for Civil Rights as their husbands, Martin and Malcolm.

The more we learned about their stories, the more it saddened us that they are consistently omitted from the history we tell around the monumental movement for our human rights, both in our schools and elsewhere.
